Synchrotron Data - Ryan Petra (Nov 2016) - Extensions of Quick XAS Imaging for radiation sensitive samples

Beamline P06 at Petra III will allow us to form XANES images at 500 nm spatial resolution and investigate schemes using various EXY axis ordering to improve the stability and reliability of XANES imaging against the effects of stage position drifts with time, thermal damage effects and energy reproducibility. The Boesenberg/ Ryan P06 experiment of 2015, achieved significant success in the first attempt at a “fast” energy axis in XAS imaging, but was limited by large overheads. The flexibility we now have will be used to investigate different compromises, such as E as the second-fastest axis, which may marry adequate spatial drift stability and reduced damage at short pixel dwell
times, uneven E steps and alleviated overheads. Although much of this cannot be done routinely at XFM at the AS at this time, there is strong interest and an ongoing collaboration between XFM (Paterson), P06 and Maia/GeoPIXE development at CSIRO.
