Bradford Heritage Recording Unit Oral History Collection

The Bradford Heritage Recording Unit is an Oral history collection, including sound recordings, full transcripts and summaries of full life story interviews arranged in broad subject groups: Bradford's textile community; European communities in Bradford; Asian and Afro Caribbean communities; Quarrying; Engineering; Farming in the Worth Valley: Health and community care; Retailing; World War I veterans; Miscellaneous. All interviews include some information on childhood and family background, education, working life and leisure activities, often exploring attitudes and experiences of religion, culture and politics. The audio recordings and abstracts of the interviews have been recently digitized by the British Library Unlocking Our Sound Heritage project. They are available at the Bradford Industrial Museum and are currently being uploaded to the Museum’s website. The dataset provided for the Congruence Engine project consists in three spreadsheets containing metadata information and summaries of 328 interviews. We are currently collecting also a selection of audio recordings with members of the textile community (30 interviews) to use in the Oral History investigation. Alongside the interviews, three csv files containing the metadata of the Oral History interviews from the Bradford Heritage Recording Unit have been provided by John Ashton for the Oral History investigation. Each spreadsheet contains metadata and short summaries of the interviews to three different communities of textile workers (English, European and Asian & Carribbean).
