Invertebrates flourishing at ca. 3000 m deep oil seeps at Campeche knolls, southern gulf of Mexico, harbor vast chemosynthetic microbial communities. Among these communities, we discovered Cycloclasticus-related bacteria. Cycloclasticus were found in association with mussel (Bathymodiolus heckerae) gill tissue or with sponges. Cycloclaticus transcriptomes were extracted from host metatranscriptomes by mapping the reads to the respective genomes. The transcriptomes were used to reconstruct the metabolism of symbiotic CYcloclasticus.
