Lake Medard is a ferruginous and sulfate-rich post-mining water body (max depth 60 m) with anoxic conditions below 48 m water column depth. Due to its unique hydrochemical features, the lake is ideal to study early diagenesis in iron-rich sediments We conducted a taxonomic abundace analyses of prokaryote populations inhabiting the bottom redox-stratified water column. For this purpose, we used water samples retrieved from the hypolymnion and monimolimnion of Lake Medard in November 2019.
