Root mass was assessed along two strong pollution gradients caused by two copper smelters, located in different regions of the Urals (Russia) in the forest litter and upper mineral soil layer (0–20 cm) at 57 sample plots (total, 570 sample points). The roots were divided into two diameter fractions: <2.0 mm (fine roots) or >2.1 mm (coarse roots).
Copper concentration values in litter are also given.
