Soil Species Database of Hunan—based on the Second National Soil Survey

This dataset is sourced from the "Hunan Soil Species" compiled by the Hunan Provincial Department of Agriculture in 1987. This book collects the attribution, name, area and distribution, main physical and chemical properties, typical profile characteristics and their physicochemical analysis results, production performance, and improvement and fertilization methods of 405 soil types in Hunan Province. The collection and extraction of raw data and information have been standardized, structured, and digitized in this database. It is an important component of the results of the second soil survey in Hunan Province. On the basis of a series of standardization work, this dataset constructed an E-R data model that includes the distribution relationship between location and soil type, as well as the classification relationship of soil occurrence and classification. It formed a data product with 5 soil orders, 11 soil classes, 25 subclasses, 124 soil genus, 405 soil species, and their physical and chemical properties. This dataset can be widely used for land quality assessment, environmental effects research, soil carbon storage research, etc. It has very important guiding significance for soil planting, soil fertilization, soil improvement, adjusting agricultural structure layout, and rational utilization of soil resources. It can also provide important reference for the ongoing third soil survey work.
