Municipal Intervention in Education and Local Education Policy in Portugal: Research Dataset of PhD Theses and Master's Dissertations

This research dataset compiles doctoral theses and master’s dissertations addressing municipal intervention in education and local education policy in Portugal. The current version of the dataset includes academic works defended between 2000 and 2024. The dataset provides a structured overview of academic research on the role of municipalities in the Portuguese education system, focusing on themes such as decentralization, educational governance, territorialization of education policies, and local education planning. There are 172 academic works in the dataset, including 16 doctoral theses and 156 master’s dissertations. Bibliographic metadata were extracted from institutional repository records. Analytical variables were generated through the qualitative coding of abstracts, including the analytical axis, methodological approach, and geographical coverage. The dataset was compiled in early 2025 based on repository records available at the time of data collection.
