Conflict, Extractivism, and Environmental Degradation: Remote Sensing and Discourse Analysis from Kurdish Territories, Dinc et al (2026), Environmental Research Letters

This deposit contains the Google Earth Engine (GEE) scripts, training data, area-of-interest boundary, and classified land cover rasters underlying the remote sensing analysis in Dinç et al. (2026), Environmental Research Letters. It includes a k-NN land cover classification script using Sentinel-2 satellite embeddings, and a post-classification change analysis script computing per-class area statistics, change hotspots, and land cover transitions for the Afrin (Syria) and Şırnak (Türkiye) study areas within Kurdish territories, 2017–2024. Supporting data include the AOI boundary shapefile, training-point shapefile, and 10 m resolution classified land cover rasters for each year from 2017 to 2024. Together these materials support reproducibility of the paper's remote sensing findings on land cover change linked to conflict and extractivism in Kurdish territories.This research is part of the ECO-Syria project that was funded by the Strategic Research Area: The Middle East in the Contemporary World (MECW) at the Centre for Advanced Middle Eastern Studies, Lund University, Sweden.
