Genome sequencing of multiple isolates of Ophidiomyces ophiodiicola, the causative agent of snake fungal disease

Snake fungal disease (SFD), caused by the fungal pathogen Ophidiomyces ophiodiicola, is rapidly emerging as a threat to North American snake populations. Unfortunately, little is known regarding the evolutionary history and molecular mechanisms contributing to its pathogenicity. In this study, we are sequencing complete genomes of O. ophiodiicola isolates collected throughout its documented range - namely North America, Europe, and Australia - to uncover the origins and evolution of SFD in North America.
