The Interplay of the Milk Components of Mare and Foal Gut Microbiome: Shaping the Development of Gut Microbiome in Foals

In mammals including horses, the gut microbiota is known to have diverse effects on living organisms. In humans, it has been suggested that factors comprised in breast milk are related to the gut microbiota and the intestinal immunity of infants. However, this correlation has not been investigated yet in horses. Hence, the main objective of the current study was to clarify the process of gut microbiota formation in foals during lactation. Besides, investigation of the low molecular weight metabolites in breast milk. Over the observation period, more robust knowledge about this mechanism will lead to probiotics and prebiotics in the future.
