We conduct KWAJEX simulations using the single-column version of the Community Atmospheric Model (CAM) with a hierarchy of parameterization schemes for PBL turbulence and cumulus convection, spanning from traditional standalone schemes (CAM_ZMUW) to unified convection schemes (CAM_UNICON), unified cloud–turbulence representations (CAM_CLUBB), and super parameterizations (CAM_SP). Details of these four distinct configurations are as follows: kwjx_4scam KWAJEX forcings crm_kwjx cloud-resolving model (CRM) outputs scam_kwjx_zmuw Deep convection: Zhang & McFarlane (1995) scheme PBL turbulence and shallow convection: Park & Bretherton (2009) scheme scam_kwjx_unicon Shallow and deep convection: a unified framework (Park, 2014a) PBL turbulence: Bretherton and Park (2009) scam_kwjx_clubb Cloud Layers Unified by Binormals (CLUBB) scheme (Golaz et al., 2002; Guo et al., 2021), which is further extended to replace the Zhang-McFarlane deep convection scheme scam_kwjx_sp CRM with kilometer-scale resolution embedded in each grid column of the host CAM scam_kwjx_clubb_silhs CLUBB with the stochastic Subgrid Importance Latin Hypercube Sampler (SILHS) scam_kwjx_clubb_zm CLUBB with the Zhang-McFarlane convection scheme
