Biogeographical regions: Natural Geographical Regions (according to the Nordic Council of Ministers 1994)

Sweden is divided into different natural geographical regions. The regional classification is based on both biological and geological factors in the landscape. The division also takes into account topography, i.e. its elevation conditions and brokenness. The regional division was directed by the Nordic Council of Ministers (1984). The Nordic region comprises 76 natural geographical regions. Of these, 29 concern Sweden.
