Small RNA sequencing in asexual stages of Plasmodium falciparum NF54

To investigate the accumulation of non coding small RNAs we performed high throughput RNA sequencing on size selcted total RNA from malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum Total RNA was used with the NEBNext small RNA seuqencing kit to create a sequencing library with size selction <100nt. Resulting sequencing library was mapped to organellar genomes (apicoplast and mitochondria) to determine clusters of organellar small RNAs. In a second experiment, RNA from enriched Plasmodium falciparum organelles was subjected to the same library preparation, sequencing scheme, and mapping analysis.
