资源简介:
This project investigates the utility and correlation of functional capacity assessment tools, focusing on the Duke Activity Status Index (DASI) and its modified version (mDASI), in predicting short-term (length of stay) and long-term (1-year mortality) postoperative outcomes following inpatient noncardiac surgery. Leveraging data from Durham VAHCS (Veterans Affairs Health Care System) and UCLH (University College London Hospital), the study examines the relationship between DASI and other functional metrics, such as Gait Speed and Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET), across diverse health systems. Building on findings from the METS study, which demonstrated DASI and mDASI as sensitive and specific predictors of postoperative outcomes, this research aims to validate these tools in distinct healthcare contexts, compare their accuracy in predicting outcomes, and explore their potential as universal metrics for functional capacity assessment. Additionally, secondary outcomes, including readmissions and emergency department visits, are evaluated to provide a comprehensive perspective on postoperative risks.
