MiRNA Sequencing of Patients with Lupus nephritis

The goal of this project was to identify serum miRNA signatures specific to different degrees of Lupus Erythematosus Systemic (LES) in patients that arrived to the Renal Unit of the Clinic of the Coast (Barranquilla, Colombia). The active Lupus nephritis was defined as persistent levels of protein or blood in the urine and/or high levels of serum creatinine (30% increase above normal values). Lupus nephritis was attributed to lupus erythematosus systemic in all cases where there was no other apparent cause. "Case" patients underwent renal biopsy to determine the histopathologic type of injury.Sequencing Study Groups:- 10 plasma samples from patients with LES without lupus nephropathy (controls) - 7 plasma samples from clinically healthy individuals without autoimmune disease (including LES) (Controls) - 4 plasma samples from patients with Lupus Nephritis class II - 4 plasma samples from patients with Lupus Nephritis class III - 4 plasma samples from patients with Lupus Nephritis class IV.
