Experimental Materials: Reactions to Negative Assertions across German and Italian Homeland and Heritage Speakers

This repository contains the experimental materials associated with the Master's thesis Response Strategies to Negative Assertions across German and Italian Homeland and Heritage Speakers, conducted at the University of Konstanz. The study investigates the interpretation and acceptability of response particles following negative assertions in German and Italian. Data were collected from German homeland speakers, Italian homeland speakers, and Italian–German heritage speakers using acceptability judgement tasks. The repository contains the complete experimental stimuli for the German and Italian tasks. The German materials manipulate context polarity (negative vs. positive), response type (agree vs. reverse), and the response particles ja, nein, and doch. The Italian materials manipulate context polarity, response type, and the response particles sì and no. The materials also include the corresponding filler and practice items. The original materials are provided as Excel spreadsheets, together with PDF versions for easier visualisation and consultation.
