This study aimed to draw mtDNA comparisons within and between watersheds of the upper Mobile Basin endemic fish species named the Coal Darter (Percina brevicauda). Genomics and bioinformatics tools were applied to study populations of this species to analyze data about its molecular ecology and evolution. Since this species is declining and is only found in 3 watersheds, our data will inform state and federal agencies about the conservation and management requirements for the Coal Darter.
