Gut microbiome of the Malayan tiger across various ex situ facilities in Peninsular Malaysia

Fecal DNA metagenomic is increasingly used to determine the gut microbiome of elusive wildlife species. In Malaysia, there is still no information about the composition of gut microbiome between captive and wild populations of Malayan tiger in Malaysia. Hence, this study aim to provides important information and could be one of the tools for understanding the relationship of tiger-microbiome in captivity to further develop strategies to improve Malayan Tiger conservation management especially in captivity and might use for rewilding the animals in the future. This study includes samples from Panthera pardus and Neofelis nebulosa as an outgroup species.
