The Global Temperature and Salinity Profile Program (GTSPP) is a joint initiative co-developed by the IOC/IODE Committee and the IOC/WMO Integrated Global Ocean Service System (IGOSS) Committee. IODE and IGOSS serve as the technical committees of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), respectively. The primary goal of the GTSPP is to rapidly provide oceanographic temperature and salinity (T-S) observational data to end users, thereby facilitating their access to these datasets. Real-time data transmitted via the Global Telecommunication System (GTS) and delayed-mode data received by the US National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) are both integrated into the Continuously Managed Database (CMD). Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the Russian Federation, and the United States have made substantial contributions to this program. Among them, the Marine Environmental Data Service (MEDS) of Canada acts as the lead entity of the program, responsible for collecting and processing real-time data. MEDS collects real-time data from multiple sources through the GTS, and transmits these data to the US NODC for error checking and other processing prior to integration. Meanwhile, MEDS has developed quality control procedures for GTSPP datasets (see Figure 9-1). In addition to Canada's MEDS and the US NODC, the program has three additional scientific centers that independently analyze delayed-mode datasets for the Indian, Pacific, and Atlantic Oceans. These centers are the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) of Australia, which fulfills the duties of the WOCE Data Assembly Center, the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) of the United States, and the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML) under the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
