Protection forest (Articles L.411-1 to L.413-1 of the Forest Code) May be classified as protective forests, for reasons of public utility (Article L411-1 of the Forest Code): * Forests whose conservation is recognised as necessary to maintain land on mountains and slopes, to protect against avalanches, erosions and flooding of waters and sands; * Woods and forests, regardless of their owners, located on the outskirts of large agglomerations, as well as in areas where maintenance is required, either for ecological reasons or for the well-being of the population.
