The origins of First Americans remain contentious. While Native Americans appear genetically most closely related to East Asians, there is no consensus on which Old World populations are closest to Native Americans. We sequenced the draft genome of a ~24 thousand year old (ka) individual (MA-1) from Mal'ta in southeast Siberia to an average depth of 1X.
