Fill from two hearths at site LA 126486 near Deming, New Mexico were examined for
macrofloral remains. Charcoal recovered from the fill of both features was submitted for AMS
radiocarbon dating, and a fire-cracked rock from one of the hearths was analyzed for organic
residue using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Macrofloral and FTIR analysis
will be used to provide subsistence information concerning plant and animal resources utilized
at this site.
