Crime & Punishment Legislation in the States, 2015-2018

This dataset contains the results of a nationwide study of crime and punishment legislation introduced in state legislatures between the years 2015 through 2018. Each state spreadsheet contains information, per bill, on legislative session, bill tracking number, bill description, legislative action, sponsorship, offense subject matter, and impact (whether the bill intended to increase and/or decrease substantive law and/or punishment). The dataset also includes a project codebook, offense subject matter codebook, NIBRS reference table, and a spreadsheet of bills excluded from data analysis.
