The emergence of carbapenemase-producing Acinetobacter baumannii strains involved in human infections has become a global threat. In contrast, reports about acquired carbapenemases in A. baumannii from animal sources are scarce. Here, we report the isolation of a carbapenem-resistant A. baumannii strain with acquired carbapenemase OXA-72 isolated from a domestic grey parrot. We observed blaOXA-72 flanked by XerC/XerD-binding sites and located on an 8,260 bp plasmid that co-harboured genes for a toxin-antitoxin system.
