Growing evidence supports characteristic differences in microbiota from different geographic populations. The present study for the first-time describe differences in gut microbiota of healthy Indians and compares it with the microbiota from other populations. Our results show that there are inter-individual variations in gut microbial communities of Indian population. Indian gut microbiota is significantly different from that of Americans and other populations but is closer to Bangladeshi population.
