The prefect appoints for a fixed period the lieutenants of the workers and determines the territories assigned to them (CE L 427-1, Ministerial Order of 14 June 2010 as amended by Ministerial Order of 12 July 2019, Technical Note of 16 July 2019 relating to Lieutenants de Louveterie NOR: TREL1920462N). These territories can be sub-communal. Wolves are a hunt for wolves and other large pests for destruction. By order, the Prefect decides on the destruction and regulation of animals which may cause damage. He appointed, for a period of five years, lieutenants of workers who would manage these destructions and regulations under the control of the departmental direction of the territories. The number of lieutenants is determined according to the area, afforestation and terrain of the department. These lieutenants are the administrative technical advisors for wildlife management.
