The Garmisch aerosol lidar measured upper tropospheric and stratospheric aerosol profiles from about 3.5 km to 45 km altitude (by elastic backscatter). The stratospheric aerosol load is calculated by integration from the tropopause level + 1 km to the upper end of the range.
