Effect of 7-phenylheptanoic acid on gut microbiota in a mouse model of chronic kidney disease

7-phenylheptanoic acid (7-PH) has been reported to attenuate the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in a mouse model. We investigated the effect of 7-PH administration on gut microbiota in a mouse model of CKD using 16S rRNA gene sequencing of fecal samples to explore the mechanisms behind its renal protective effects. Our analyses reveal that 7-PH prevents dysbiosis of the gut microbiota, which is typically associated with CKD progression. These findings suggest that a homeostatic effect on the gut microbial community contributes to the renal protective effect of 7-PH.
