Total basic provisioning level – state 2015

This map shows, for each location in the Flemish and Brussels Capital Regions, the total level of basic provision on a scale of 0 to 1, as a result of the calculation of the proximity (according to specified parameters) of basic services and this for reference year 2015. Basic services are services needed to organise daily life and participate in society. Examples are: nursery and primary school, childcare, general practitioner, pharmacy, food shop, postal point and (public) meeting spaces inside and outside. The calculation is based on the location of the individual basic services and then determines which 1-ha cells are located within walking or cycling distance from the totality of the basic services. In several steps, (1) basic provisions are aggregated into a content-technically processable set, (2) weighted according to their number in the vicinity, and (3) distance-weighted summed. In order to select and aggregate basic provisions, 50 different types of provisions were taken into account in total, divided into four types: education, culture and sport, care and housing support services. The facilities in Brussels were complemented, where possible, by information from the Territorial Development Agency (ATO, 2010).
