Effects of silymarin on body weight, biochemical indicators and HOMA-IR) in Wistar rats receiving fed fructose-rich chow or normal chow.

Silymarin (200 mg/kg body weight) was orally administerated once daily to Wistar rats fed fructose-rich or normal chow for 2 weeks. The HOMA-IR index was calculated as fasting glucose (mmol/L)×fasting insulin (mU/L)/22.5. Data represent mean ± standard error of mean of 8 animals. P<0.001 compared with normal chow-fed rats receiving vehicle; ###P<0.001 compared with fructose-rich chow-fed rats receiving vehicle.
