Dawson-Los Manos Canyon Reserve Annual Report
A radio antenna and an equipment shelter has been installed and operated on the Reserve for several years. Three antennas operate together (the other two are at Borrego and La Posta). They are used primarily to measure the solar wind which is a tenuous hot hydrogen gas blowing outwards from the sun. This antenna is passive and is fully remote-controlled. Data are received 18 hours a day over a microwave telemetry link. The site is visited about once a month for maintenance. The principle investigators are: B. J. Rickett, V. H. Ruinsey and W. A. Coles who is on sabbatical leave this year.
