The Birds Directive areas serve the long-term conservation of Europe’s wild bird species and their habitats. The demarcation of the Bavarian bird sanctuaries was established by the “Regulation on the definition of European bird protection areas and their territorial limits and conservation objectives” (short: VoGEV) on 12.7.2006, as amended by Ordinance of 22.7.2014, legally binding. The “Bavarian Ordinance on Natura 2000 Areas” of 19 February 2016 establishes legally binding bird sanctuaries and FFH areas with a common ordinance. The Bavarian notification of bird sanctuaries is offered on a scale of 1:5.000.
