This supplementary document is part of the research entitled “The historical use of wood in the artisanal production of the rabeca, a musical instrument present in Azorean cultural practices along the coast of Santa Catarina”, developed by Fábio Júnior de Souza, a graduate student in the Postgraduate Program in Cultural Heritage and Society at the University of the Region of Joinville – UNIVILLE. The research was conducted along the coastal zone of Santa Catarina, encompassing the municipalities of Araquari, Florianópolis, Imaruí, Joinville, and Penha — localities where the traditional use of the rabeca is still manifested in popular festivities and celebrations. The study was based on the principles of Historical Anatomy, an interdisciplinary approach that combines wood anatomy and cultural sciences, allowing the interpretation of the historical use of wood as both a material and symbolic expression of human societies. The main stage of the investigation consisted of recording the traditional knowledge and craftsmanship related to rabeca making. To identify the master artisans who hold this knowledge, the snowball sampling technique was adopted, which is particularly effective when the target group is small or difficult to access. The process began with the identification of an initial key informant who, in turn, suggested other rabeca masters and family members directly linked to the tradition. Wood samples were collected from the musical instruments for taxonomic identification, following standard wood anatomy protocols. The descriptions of the identified species are presented herein.
