SAC — Special Conservation Areas — Natura 2000 Network

The sites covered by the Habitats Directive 92/43/EEC were initially identified as SCIs (Sites of Community Interest proposed) by the Regions delegated under Presidential Decree No 357/99. Subsequently, they were evaluated and included in the list of SCIs (Sites of Community Interest) by the European Commission through publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. Only following the approval of Protection and Conservation Measures (M.T.C.) or Management Plans (P.d.G.) by the Regions, the SCIs were designated by Ministerial Decree as Special Conservation Zones (SACs). All the sites of the Basilicata Region are ZSC.
