Linking Groundwater Transit Time, Atmospheric Inputs, and Mineral Weathering to Potassium exports in Boreal Landscapes

Potassium (K) is one of the most abundant elements on Earth and an important macronutrient that is strongly biologically recycled in ecosystems. The quantity of K exported in streams therefore depends on a reliant estimation of sources, mobility and fate in catchments. To understand the mechanism responsible for regulating K exports, we used three models (areal cover of landscape types, catchment size and mean groundwater travel time (MTT)) that infer weathering in varying degrees in 13 nested boreal sub catchments across eight years.
