Performing global gene expression profiling for different types of (Mesenchymal stem cells) MSCs can provide important information that might help in understanding the biology and ontogeny of MSCs. Additionally, it might help in the understanding of the propensity and capacity of MSCs from a particular source to differentiate toward a particular lineage or adopt a certain fate. We used microarrays to detail the global gene expression profiling for different types of MSCs including bone marrow (BM), Adipose Tissue (AT), Umbilical cord (UC) and placenta(PL). The MSCs transcriptome profile was additionally compared to the transcriptome profile of dermal fibroblasts. All MSCs (BM, AT, UC and PL) and fibrpblats were cultured and processed under similar conditions. Platelet lysate was used instead of fetal bovine serum (FBS), as a serum supplement. Affymetrix® Microarray and Human Transcriptome Analysis 2 (HTA 2) chips were used for transcriptome profiling.
