NRS-20130 | Records relating to the construction, opening and operation of the Sydney Harbour Bridge [Department of Railways]

This series consists of correspondence, plans, pamphlets, reports, photographs, souvenirs, a publication and memorabilia relating to the construction and opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.Included in the series are tenders, plans and the contract for construction of the bridge, reports on designs and tenders proposed for the bridge, lithographs for the proposed bridge, a plan showing the proposed bridge and recommended approaches, letters relating to bridge design and to the thesis submitted by J.J.C. Bradfield.The series also containsand tickets and souvenirs from the official opening of the Harbour Bridge in 1932 inclduing the papers of Albert Arnold, driver of the official train at the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. A rosette, spoon, photographs and the electric train driver's daily report from the day of the opening are included within the papers of Albert Arnold. A publication by Robert Emerson Curtis titled 'Building the Bridge' can also be found in this series.Custody HistoryFrom 1955 until 2000 the State Rail Authority of New South Wales maintained an 'in house archives' consisting of the archival records of the Authority, its predecessor agencies and the private railway companies taken over by the government. The date ranges of the records were from 1849 until 2000. When the decision was made to close the 'State Rail Archives' the parts of the collection that were required as State archives were transferred to the State Records Authority of NSW. Those record series were incorporated into the State Records series system of archives control and were re-numbered.This series was formerly part of the State Rail Archives collection where it was identified as part of series R479. It may have been viewed in the State Rail Archives as series R479 and could have been previously cited as such in notes by researchers at State Rail Archives or in publications or unpublished works.

保管沿革
1955年至2000年，新南威尔士州铁路管理局（State Rail Authority of New South Wales）设有内部档案馆，馆藏涵盖该局、其前身机构及政府接管的私营铁路公司的档案记录，馆藏时间跨度为1849年至2000年。当新南威尔士州铁路管理局决定关闭其内部铁路档案库时，符合州档案保管要求的馆藏部分被移交至新南威尔士州档案管理局（State Records Authority of NSW）。该部分档案被纳入州档案系列管理体系并重新编号。
