Replication data for: India (2009): A Quantitative/Qualitative Study to Measure IUD Recommending Behaviour and related Triggers and Biases among Private Providers

PSI is currently implementing a three-year (2008-2010) integrated behaviour change program for better health of women, named as PEHEL in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi. This project comprises of two components: 1) Prevention of unwanted pregnancies using Intra Uterine Device (IUD) 2) Increasing access of safe and legal Medical Termination of Pregnancy through Medical Abortions (MA) This document focuses on IUD intervention. The aim of the IUD intervention is to increase the use of IUDs as a long term contraceptive method for women. A Quasi-experimental design is proposed for the objective only. KAP (Knowledge, Attitude and Practice) survey, a quantitative study, will be implemented among private providers within and outside PSI network for measuring their current practice and the extent of existing biases against the method. For objective, a qualitative study will be conducted for in-depth understanding of provider biases towards the method. For objective, a Mystery Client study will be conducted among private providers within and outside PSI network for measuring their current behaviour and related quality parameters pertaining to IUD. This study will be done using LQAS methodology.
