Measurement of clinical empathy using Jefferson Scale of Empathy – Student Version in medical students in India

The Jefferson Scale of Empathy – Student version (JSE – S) was used to assess clinical empathy in medical undergraduate students. Informed consent was obtained prior to administration of the questionnaire to the participants. The English version of the questionnaire was used. Data regarding age, semester, gender, decision to join the undergraduate medical training, the choice of specialty and the current place of residence was also collected. All medical undergraduate students of University College of Medical Sciences and GTB Hospital in the year 2017, numbering 600 in total, were invited to participate in the study, and data was collected over a period of 1 month, July 2017.
