The rational design of such ligands is crucial for optimising the luminescent properties of platinum(II) complexes, while continuous modification of manufacturing technique further enhances device performance. In this work, various types of tetradentate platinum(II) complexes (and their palladium(II) analogues) were developed:1. A series of tetradentate Pt/Pd-N^C^C^N complexes with diphenylamine-substituted phenoxyl-pyridine/phenoxyl-1-methylimidazole “supporting ligands” and oxygen-bridged “C^N cyclometalating ligands” (conjugated difluoride-phenyl-pyrazole/3,5-dimethylpyrazole) were investigated.2. A series of asymmetric tetradentate Pt/Pd-N^C^C^NHC complexes were synthesized by replacing the azole fragments in the former N^C^C^N ligand backbones with various carbene moieties. These compounds exhibit blue to pale green emission in toluene (λmax = 467-503 nm), with triplet lifetimes of 0.18-1.31 μs and PLQY up to 76%. The representative blue-emitting Pt-2-NHC-TBBI was employed as an OLED dopant. 3. A versatile synthetic strategy was developed for constructing a phenanthroline-type tetradentate Pt-O^N^N^O complex (Pt-CN). By rationally selecting and arranging the functional substituents, the photophysical properties were systematically tuned, achieving high-performance red emission. Pure red OLEDs (CIE 0.64, 0.35) were fabricated using Pt-CN as the phosphorescent dopant, achieving a maximum EQE of 16%.
