Fur Trade Project

This project investigates the long-term interactions between human populations and keystone fur-bearing mammals (mink, muskrat, and beaver) before, during, and after the fur trade to explore the ecology and recovery/extinction of fur-bearing species. Integrating anthropology, ecology, and genomics, the project compares coastal fur-bearing mammals in Maine and Oregon to uncover historical and modern human-environment interactions and inform community-based management.
