Cross-border transmission of Salmonella Choleraesuis var. Kunzendorf in European pigs and wild boar; infection, genetics and evolution.

In this study, we wanted to understand and elucidate the European transmission routes and the epidemiology of S. Choleraesuis var. Kunzendorf in the porcine environment including the contribution from wild boars. Available European strains of the last two decades were whole genome sequenced combined with a bioinformatics analysis focusing on the overall phylogeny but also the clonality within the Danish herds and between the different organs of the same animal were investigated.
