Corine Land Cover 2018

The Corine Land Cover (CLC) 2018 and the changes to the 2012-2018 CLC are two datasets produced as part of the Copernicus land cover and land use monitoring. The Corine Land Cover (CLC) provides information on land cover and land change at European level. The project started in 1985 (the reference year is 1990) and provides a historical set of land cover and land use information with updates to 2000, 2006, 2012 and 2018. The products of the CLC are based on the photo interpretation of satellite images made by the national teams of the participating States (EU Member States and cooperating States), following a standard methodology and nomenclature with the following characteristics: 44 classes at the third hierarchical level of the Corine nomenclature; minimum mapping unit (MMU) covering 25 hectares; the minimum linear element amplitude of 100 metres; minimum Cartographable Unit (MMU) for changes (LCC) of 5 hectares. The national inventories of the Corine Land Cover are also integrated into a European land cover card. Land cover and land use information (LCLU) is important not only for monitoring changes in research but also more generally for monitoring the state of the environment, supporting policies, creating environmental indicators and reporting. The CLC products provide an important support for the implementation of key priority areas within the European Union Environmental Action Programme for the protection of ecosystems, to stop biodiversity loss, to track the impacts of climate change, to evaluate developments in agriculture and to implement the European Water Framework Directive.
