Microbiomes of small-scale aquaculture ponds in Bangladesh

Food production environments in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) are recognised as posing a significant and increasing risk to antimicrobial resistance (AMR), one of the greatest threats to global public health and food security systems. In order to characterise the microbiomes in small-scale aquaculture ponds in Bangladesh, in 2017-2018, we collected pond water samples from 6 different farms on a monthly basis, as part of a UKRI-Newton Fund Global Research Partnership project entitled 'Prediction and mitigation of diseases outbreaks in aquaculture through large scale community engagement'.
