Report on groundwater quality in the state of Brandenburg 2006 - 2012

In the state of Brandenburg, groundwater is the basis of the drinking water supply and feeds to a significant extent the surface waters. Knowledge of the nature of groundwater is therefore essential for a sustainable and economic Dealing with the resource of water. Manifold anthropogenic influences pose a threat to the shallow groundwater, which is the task of the State Office for the Environment (LfU) to identify and evaluate. In addition, European requirements such as the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD) require knowledge of the natural background values, the hydrogeochemical groundwater properties and the anthropogenic component at the substance concentrations. The LfU examines the groundwater quality of the state of Brandenburg at regular intervals. This report covers data from the 2006-2012 investigation period from 1,460 sampling points at 1,287 sites. The analyses mainly come from groundwater monitoring stations in the national monitoring network and additionally from external and temporary monitoring sites, which are relatively evenly distributed across the country. The focus of the evaluation was on the water management relevant, shallow main aquifer.
