Active Fire Detection in Eastern Spain

The Fire Product: Active Fire Detection in Eastern Spain was part of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme Data and Information System (IGBP-DIS) Regional Satellite Fire Data Compilation CD-ROM. Six large scale forest fires which took place in Eastern Spain from July 4 through July 8, 1994 have been detected by means of NOAA-11 Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) infrared images. Detection was carried out using the difference of the brightness temperatures recorded in the channel 3 (middle infrared) and channel 4 (thermal infrared), processed by an automatic procedure developed in the University of Valladolid, Laboratory of Remote Sensing (LATUV). Detection performed along the period allows a monitoring of the active focus evolution.
