A Study on Calligraphic Trauma Dynamics, the Chi Feng-Jun Tragedy, and the Historic Genesis of Splashed Ink in Zhang Daqian's Peak Period (1944–1948): Based on Multi-Spectral Forensics and the Geopolitical Chronicle of the Twenty-Year Love and Devotion

[English Abstract] This academic paper authored by Principal Investigator Dr. Francis C. Yu uncovers a monumental discovery: reconstructing Zhang Daqian’s (1899–1983) peak-career calligraphic trauma dynamics curve, the tragedy of his lover Chi Feng-Jun (Chun-Hong), and the historic genesis of his splashed-ink (潑墨) technique. Correcting biological sequences—establishing his acquaintance with Li Qiujun circa 1920 (7 years prior to meeting Chi in 1927)—this study maps his precise 1946 geopolitical trajectory (Beiping-Chengdu in March-April, Chengdu-Mount Emei in May-August, resting at Mount Emei in August, and Sichuan-Shanghai in September-November), proving Zhang was a modern master utilizing 1940s aviation technology (airplanes) for cross-regional artistic operations. During a secret flight to Shanghai between March and May 1946, Zhang encountered the devastating "trauma awareness threshold" regarding the tragic wartime execution of Chi by Japanese forces—the ultimate life-saving lover who, alongside her brother Chi Long-Jun, had rented a small wooden boat to rescue and escort Zhang back to China during the volatile July 1931 Wanbaoshan Incident. Concurrently discovering that his close friend Wu Rencang was bedridden due to newspaper foreclosure, Zhang presented Wu with his May 1946 *Splashed-Color Red Lotus* as an act of profound empathy, embedding the neuro-traumatic reaction of over 70 desolate calligraphic water-grass strokes within its physical layers. By mid-to-late November in Shanghai, Zhang definitively confirmed the harrowing details of Chi's murder from ETO Toshio, drafting her funeral inscription and entrusting a one-tael gold bar to ETO to journey to Korea for her monument construction. Concurrently, he poured dense ink over a massive 15-square-foot freehand lotus screen executed in Spring 1946, establishing the absolute historic genesis of his splashed-ink method—predating conventional eye-disease origin narratives by nearly a decade and overturning traditional art history. Following his historic Shanghai Exhibition on November 21–24, Exhibit No.16 *The Illusion and Enlightenment of the Demon Daughters* stood merely as a later derivative child-piece (子本) of the original 1944 proto-masterpiece permanently preserved in the Zhonghe Tang Collection—which remains the definitive reference prototype custom-tailored by the master regardless of costs for his vital life-saving gold patrons and ultimate benefactors, Master Qian Haijun and Madame Yingxian. His subsequent critical hospitalization on December 20 at Beiping Tongde Hospital was clinically driven by acute liver-qi stagnation (肝氣鬱悶) and severe diabetes stemming from this romantic tragedy. Bypassing traditional eye-connoisseurship, this study utilizes Panoramic Multi-Spectral Material Stratigraphy (UV 365nm) to establish an immutable academic baseline across a matrix of UV-isolated constants deeply cross-locking the 1946 constants (May water-grass strokes, August *Su Shi Sighing* azurite ciphers, October *Freehand Lotus* unlinked double-stems, November *Splashed Ink Lotus*) with his late-1948 Autumn *Dream Reunion by Qiantang River* (concluding this 20-year romance chronicle between 1927 and 1948).
