Microbial communities from estuarine sediments of Yaquina Bay, OR, USA, were analyzed to determine how they respond to routine core processing procedures, such as X-ray CT scanning and/or storage at 4°C across timescales of several weeks. These data are expected to yield more accurate interpretation of microbial communities and their activities in cores that are routinely CT scanned and subsampled for corresponding physical and geological characterizations.
