mother and child. Attitudes to the pregnancy preliminary examination.
Topics: 1. Oral survey: preparation for pregnancy; interest in
increased information about pregnancy and birth; source of information
about maternity leave regulations; participation in courses on
pregnancy and pregnancy preliminary examinations; experiences in
pregnancy care, in the doctor´s practice, in the hospital and with the
midwife; frequency of preliminary examinations and entries in the
document for expectant mothers; distance between residence and doctor´s
practice and means of transport used; change of doctor´s practice or
place of preliminary examination; general attitude to pregnancy
preliminary examination (scale); questions on delivery and last
pregnancy; complications during pregnancy; number of births; assessment
of condition of health before and during pregnancy; presence of husband
at delivery and if appropriate reasons for not being present; attitude
to delivery at home; patient status; characterization of one´s own
working conditions; commuting time to work; last work day before giving

2. Written survey: point in time and manner of determination of
pregnancy; first emotional reaction of respondent as well as of
relatives at this determination; type and frequency of use of
semi-luxury foods, tobacco and alcohol during pregnancy; use of
contraceptives; attitude to abortion; knowledge about criminal
prosecution with offences; planned child; feelings at the first
gynecological examination; conversations about sex questions in
parental home; attitude to role as housewife (scale); judgement on
one´s own financial situation.
3. Survey of all medical information entered in the examination
booklet for children and in the document for expectant mothers:
new-born initial examination; new-born base examination; information on
medical findings at delivery.
Demography: sex, age, marital status of all members of household;
number of children; ages of children (classified); religious
denomination; religiousness; school education; vocational training;
occupation; employment; income; size of household; composition of
household. Interviewer rating: type of building; type of city; presence
of other persons; presence of the baby during the interview and number
as well as length of interruptions by the child; other interruptions of
the interview; willingness of respondent to cooperate and assessment of
her reliability; smoking by respondent during the interview; length of
interview; length of stay of interviewer altogether; survey week;
weekday of interview.
