WikiChurches is a dataset for architectural style classification, consisting of 9,485 images of church buildings. Both the images and their style labels are sourced from Wikipedia. This dataset can serve as a benchmark across various research domains, as it incorporates numerous real-world challenges: fine-grained discrimination between classes based on subtle visual features, relatively small sample size, highly imbalanced class distribution, significant viewpoint variations, and the hierarchical structure of labels, where only a subset of images are annotated at the most granular level. Additionally, we provide bounding box annotations for 631 distinctive visual features on 139 churches spanning four major categories. For instance, these annotations can support research on fine-grained classification, where additional expert knowledge about distinct object parts is typically accessible.
